1st Semester of College Reflection

Coming into college, I didn’t really know what to expect. I had an idea in my head of what I thought college would be like: parties, having lots of friends, trying new things…. Most of that was true. College is kinda like a sandbox where it’s whatever you make of it. I learned slowly that the more I put myself out there, the more I’d enjoy myself. It took time, but once I found a good group of people to be around, it made it easier.

Now I play football, so that means all the other football guys and I arrived on campus 2 weeks early. This was an odd experience for me. I was excited, nervous, didn’t know anybody, was missing home, and was occupied all day. I really didn’t have time to deal with the stress of everything cause constantly had football stuff that needed to be done. The first couple days were tough.

By the time the first week passed, I was finally able to get a sense of footing and routine. I realized that all the other freshmen were probably going through something similar to me. This idea that we were kinda “struggling” together helped me feel more connected to the other guys. “I don’t know what’s going on”, good cause nobody does. It’s like we could learn and grow together as teammates and friends. It’s kinda beautiful if you think about it(at least I think so).

Past fall camp. Overall, the freshman year season was pretty damn fun. I made a good number of friends. It’s pretty easy if you’re with the same people for almost 4 months. You’ll find your click. The rest of the semester was pretty relaxed. There were a couple of hurdles, but I kept pushing through. I ended the first semester with some pretty good grades and hope to build off that in the future. I’m grateful for all the experiences I had in the first semester.
